Most of the compilations are in the ‘old’ format that previous subscribers will be familiar with. The most recent compilations are in a slightly different format. They all have exactly the same functionality except for a couple of features in Progress, which are explained at the end of this guide. Where there are differences between the two formats, examples of both are shown.

Getting started
From the Exampro Gatekeeper select ‘GCSE English Highlights’.

Click info to view a description of the contents of the three main tabs: Language, Literature and Progress.

Use the tabs to navigate between the different sets of exemplars.

NB When a tab is selected, it turns purple and the available documents are revealed.

To view annotated responses, click on the relevant button.

Navigating compilations
In an original compilation, use the buttons on the far left to select a specific question.

In a new compilation, use the buttons at the top to select a specific question.

Use the buttons immediately to the left of the text to select different responses.

Original compilation

New compilation

Click the all or View all tab to view all responses together. Use the scroll bar to move through the responses.

In an original compilation, click the relevant blue tab at the top of the page to view the question or mark scheme.

In a new compilation, click the relevant button on the left hand side of the viewer.

Using the framework
The framework is on the right hand side of the text. Select one, some or all of the criteria to view the relevant highlights.

NB The framework is based on the mark scheme and lists the various ways the work is assessed.

Click on a section of the highlighted text to view the relevant comment in the yellow box on the right hand side.

NB All of the sections to which the comment applies will darken and the text will turn white.

To view the summative comment and overall mark, select ‘Summative comment’ and ‘Mark’ in the framework then click on COMMENT or MARK at the end of the response.

Click the show/hide all button at the top of the framework box to reveal all highlights. Deselect this box to remove all highlights.

Most comments are levelled to fit the mark scheme. Levels can be filtered using the Filter option at the top of the framework.

Printing original compilations
To print a copy of the current response(s), click the cog in the top right of the response box and select Print Current.

NB Responses can only be printed without highlights.

Click the print icon in the top right corner of the screen to print the questions and mark schemes.  Click the PDF icon to create a PDF.

Printing new compilations
Click the print icon in the top right corner of the screen to print the current view.

NB Responses can only be printed without highlights.

Progress
Click one of the buttons in the View by question section to view the students’ performance, in a specific question, over time.

Click one of the buttons in the View by session section to view the students’ performance, in two or more questions, at a moment in time.

Progress compilations show persistence. This means that, when you change the question or session by selecting the tabs at the top, the button selected on the left hand side remains the same.

For example, in the images below, ‘Elizabeth’ and ‘Year 10 T1’ tab have been selected. When ‘Year 11 T3’ tab is selected, the viewer will display ‘Elizabeth’ until another button is selected.

All of the frameworks in Progress have an additional feature called ‘Student profile’. Select this criterion in the framework then click on a student’s name (which will be highlighted in purple) to view their profile in the yellow box.
